Allandale Woods

Allandale Woods is an 86 acre woods located west of Arnold Arboretum on the Jamaica Plain/West Roxbury line and is bordered roughly by Allandale Street, Centre Street, the VFW Parkway, and Hackensack Road. There are mutliple paths leading to ponds and streams, as well as a cattail marsh. Activities include hiking, bird watching, and trail running.

Billings Field

Every summer the Parks & Recreation Department hosts music concerts and movie nights in the field. There are multiple sports fields including baseball fields, as well as tennis and basketball courts. There are two playgrounds and a walking path around the park.

Brook Farm Historic Site

A designated National Historic Site for an experimental society, this sprawling 179-acre park includes fields and wetlands, with multiple walking trails. A great site for viewing wildlife, as well as a picnic area, this park adjacent to Millennium Park is accessible just off Baker Street.

Cutler Park

A sprawling 600-acre park, protecting the Charles River's largest marsh and Kendrick Pond. There are multiple walking trails, including the 1.5 mile Kendrick Pond loop trail. The park is great for birdwatching, as well as hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, as well as cross-country skiing in the winter.

Fallon Field

A small park in Roslindale*. This park has a large field with multiple sports fields, including a baseball field, a tennis court, and two basketball courts. It also has a large rope climbing structure with a smaller playground below it as well. It is especially popular in the winter, as it has an excellent sledding hill.

Hancock Woods

These woods off the VFW parkway are a good spot for a short hike. Adjacent to the Mt. Benedict Cemetery, these woods and fields include a mile-long walking trail. The park is accessible from a trail at the back of the Independence Drive parking lot off of the VFW Parkway.

Millennium Park

Popular with families, sports clubs, joggers and mountain bikers. Spectular wildlife viewing and excellent birding too. The park connects to other nearby trail systems in the Charles River network. On the eastern side, there is a canoe put-in to the Charles River.
